Welcome to the ABC
The ABC centre is a dedicated unit setup to support CIS undergraduate students working on commercial projects. We aim to provide invaluable work experience within a professional environment to prepare you for working within the industry.
We offer a wide range of computing projects that will add value to your CV and boost your future career prospects. You can read the casestudies to hear about other students experiences and visit the projects available section to see what projects are currently available.
You will be supported throughout your project by an academic supervisor as well as the ABC’s Learning Development Manager who will provide support to you in managing your projects ensuring you have a successful and rewarding experience. As well as participating in an exciting and stimulating project you can put your experience towards your degree by taking the module ‘Work Related Academic Credit’.

Developing Professionalism
The University is dedicated to providing you with the necessary tools to prepare you for working in industry. This includes making sure you are aware of professional and ethical requirements of the modern day working environment with the aim of increasing your employment prospects.
We believe it is essential to offer you a specialised work area as it contributes to your overall project experience and develops your appreciation of business work ethics. A dedicated environment has been built for ABC students to encourage relationships between you and our customers. Students so far have been positive on their experience using the labs and working on ABC projects:
“To students intending to partake in similar projects in the future, I would highly recommend it. The working environment is very pleasant, and unlike any other room at the University. It has given me a much better idea of what it could be like working for a client on a professional business project.”
Chris Fuller, BSc Computer Games Development
The rooms provide both a specialised computer lab containing a suite of commercial software and a study / project development area for students to work and meet with clients. Both rooms have been developed to mirror a professional working environment.
